Having adored both Clovenhoof and Pigeonwings I thought I might miss Jeremy. As it happens I didn't. The "Godsquad" were almost as good as Jeremy.
A prayer has come in from Simon. Simon doesn't seem to have a soul, so Joan of Arc, Saint Christoper and Francis of Assisi have been sent back to earth to track down Mary Mother of Jesus and then find Simon. Mary has gone AWOL in Europe and Simon seems to be counting down to the Apocalypse, so it's a bit urgent that Joan and friends find them.
This story was a road trip with a difference. The cast are out of time and out of this world too. They meet up with people who help them and those that hinder them, although they certainly hinder themselves with ease.
I love this author(s) writing. It's fast-paced, funny and irreverent. A joy to read indeed.

Pigeonwings by Heide Goody and Iain Grant
This is the sequel to the fantastic Clovenhoof, but this time Jeremy aka Clovenhoof, aka Satan is joined by the Archangel Michael. Michael, being Mr Goody Two Shoes is easily led astray by Clovenhoof as he tries to adapt to living in Birmingham.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and, after a slowish start, this book develops into a great successor to it. Again, the characters get into trouble with the fingers pointed firmly at Clovenhoof's door. This was truly a laugh out loud book for me. Looking at the desctiption, the book is over 400 pages. I could have read 400 more about Clovenhoof. He is a character that could run and run, and get into trouble wherever he goes. There is great characterisation in all the main characters.
A thoroughly fun read.

Clovenhoof by Heide Goody and Iain Grant
This is the story of when Satan got kicked out of hell and
goes to live in a Birmingham suburb. He is forced to live in a flat in a
converted house and makes friends with his neighbours. Of course, Satan
being Satan, he has no “people skills” and no knowledge of financial matters.
I found this a really funny story. Satan, or Jeremy
Clovenhoof as he is now known as, just doesn’t understand real life and the
effects of what does and what he says to people.
As I was reading this, I was picturing it as a sitcom.
Most of the action is set in the flats or the pub and there were some great
one-liners.
